Just that really, anyone have a child with severe/profound hearing loss ? What are your experiences ? Challenges ? Wanted to hear from someone said could offer an insight.

I have a profoundly deaf DS who wears Cochlear Implants.

Everyday is a challenge with a child with a disability but you just learn to cope and it's just part of him now.

He's 3 and I worry about him starting school next year.

Do you have a deaf child?

Thanks for replying Lovelise, theres a strong possibility my baby will be born with a hearing impairment. I am scared. My partner has a profound hearing loss and wears hearing aids..overall he has managed well in life although I am very aware of the challenges he has faced and faces in life. Do you sign with your child? Will he/she be going to a mainstream primary school ?

We were obviously devasted when we first found out, but the amount of support we received was amazing. There is lots of support out there if you want it. DS had hearing aids at first but then progressed on to Cochlear Implants, which means he can hear very well. The technology these days is absolutely brilliant. Have you looked at the NDCS website? There's lots of information on there to read, and use then to help complete the DLA form if you need.

I would like to say that although DS us deaf, he's still a loving, beautiful, cheeky little boy. He's got tonnes of friends at nursery. Even though his speech hasn't caught up yet, he communicates in other ways, it's amazing to watch. We do sign with him, it really helps him try and express what he's thinking. It's really opened up our lives and we have met so many fabulous people because of him.

He will be going to mainstream primary.
