Hello

My son 4.5 has prolongations while speaking. While reading articles in google, I understood it is a form of stuttering. For him stuttering is appearing and disappearing . It is fluctuating and also no idea about this prolongations how to control.

Could you please advice me how to proceed further.

While I'm no expert on stuttering, I went through a phase of it myself (prolongations) and fixed it by doing verbal exercises every day. I would do things like read outloud as fast as I could while pronouncing each word as clearly as possible.
I know of another stutterer who got rid of his stutter by doing similar things.
It's normal for many children to stutter, but you might consider taking him to a speech pathologist if it gets too concerning.

Hi there,

Just read your post and thought I'd offer some help. I basically overcame my stutter through singing and my son also stutters (7yr old) and I'm working with him. I'm currently on a break from Les Mis in the West End and teaching online etc but happy to talk through my technique and experience via zoom. Smile

Hi op, my ds had a stutter for a short while. It went, but while he had it he was referred for speech therapy on nhs. In my area they prioritise speech therapy for stutters and health visitor was keen to refer him, and speech therapy was on NHS. I think they prioritise it because a stutter can be treated at this age but if not can last a life time and cause more issues. so I would definitely raise it with your gp/health visitor and try and get referral.

Thank you for offering valuable advice,
My kid his stuttering is fluctuating.
Some days or months without any stuttering.
Some days it is worst. No stability .
Is the stuttering likewise ?

We went to SLP and they told me to wait till 5yrs old.
