clingy 13month old dd

my dd is really clingy she wants to sit or lay on me constantly. In the superwmarket trolley she wants me to take her out and carry her, its the same with the buggy. She has to eat sitting on me i have to sit on the floor with her to play so she can sit on me. She goes to nursery 3 days a week and is fine there its just when im around. I dont know how to tackle this problem, anyone got any ideas please or has anyone else been through this.

Oooh this sounds a toughy, but not one I'm sure I know how to deal with either.
Have just had lots of help for my prob on another thread so will bump to see if anyone else can help.

It does sound like you may need to be a bit firmer and as I've just had re-emphasised to me, to reward the good beahviour (when she does occupy herself) and try to ignore the bad.

Thinking on a bit, I'd def try to help her be more confident playing by herself to begin with - when she's got a bit more confidence with this, it might be easier to try and tackle one of the other issues like eating - how is she with a high chair? Mine went through a stage of not wanting to go in it or his car seat. I did give on a couple of times to begin with, as I wasn't sure what the problem was but I then got firm about it and he got the message quite quickl7.

Hi webdiva you are right i need to be firmer with her, last night she launched herself out of her cot i was fast asleep and got a fright as she landed on top of me, she just snuggled into me and went back to sleep, my arm went dead so had to move her off well she went mad and as not to wake her 2 older brothers and the neighbours i let her stay with me. Oh what have i done ! ! THink this is the start of something else getting her to stay in the cot now she knows how to get out. Sorry gone off on one there a bit, thanks for your thoughts anyway

I'd say live through it, as it's a totally normal, and hopefully short lived phase at this age. Obviously you can't let her be out of a carseat, but anything else, I'd think hard before I tried to force an issue, as it will only make it last longer.

Get your shopping delivered and just go with it; it shouldn't last long.

And you can always try a good toddler sling like an Ergo, or a wrap. Works well for me

Oh gosh have read back through my post and it sounds really harsh - I don't mean force her in her pushchair! But I do think it's related to her knowing that mummy means what she says, and explaining to her what the deal is, but in a relaxed way - if she picks up it's an issue for you, it will be for her too.

with my ds I had to be quite firm about him going in the car seat - something he was fine about every day of his life until one day, when he realised he was beginning to have lots of choice in his life. But we had to get home! I was consistent with it a few times,instead of lifting him numerous times in and out of the car and wandering around aimlessly in the rain with him in my arms to pacify him, as I had previously done. Thus done with car seat, he soon stopped playing up going in his high chair too. May be I was lucky.

Ooh and I can empathise with the cot thing but mrsgb's right - it's probably going to be a time thing and not too long til your out the other side. I'm hoping DS will leave my specs alone soon too!
