Hello!!
Please help a mum out!
We transitioned my nearly 3 year old in to a toddler bed a few months ago, he initially loved his pillow and quilt however now I’ll tuck him in and as soon as I walk out the door he’ll chuck it all out the bed along with his teddies. To begin with id go back in and explain to him he needed to use his quilt to keep him warm but he quite quickly made a game of it when he realised that I’d keep going back in to give it to him. Over the last month I haven’t been back in his room once he chucks the pillow and quilt out (the weather has been warm) but I’m at a loss! How can I help him to understand that he needs it?! Do I just leave it on the floor and hope he’ll get it if he’s cold? Your help is much appreciated!!

I would leave the pillow and quilt on the floor then put it on him after he'd fallen asleep.

In the winter he'll understand why he wants a quilt on him

Thank you, we were going before we went to bed to put it back on but he’d wake up and then throw it all out again! He’d lay there for about an hour or so just asking for it, it’s in reach but he wouldn’t get it himself! For the first month or so I was in and out of his room all night doing it hence the game! So I stopped altogether hoping one day he’d just keep it all in his bed! I’ll try this again, I hate the thought of him being cold. Thank you for your advise.

He's not going to be too cold at this time of year so long as he has suitable nightwear - which will vary according to temperature.

If he's the same when it does get colder then just make sure he sleeps in a fleece onsie or similar with a vest or tee shirt under and he'll be fine if his bedroom doesn't get too cold.

Ok, I’ve got some fleece pyjamas but I’ll grab some more. His room gets so cold in winter, it goes down to about 9 degrees. That’s with a heater and radiator on in the bedroom before he goes to sleep. Unfortunately our house is very cold! I’m hoping he’ll understand by then and want to keep the quilt on for warmth.
