13 month old DS just been writhing around and screaming for half an hour

I was just about to call the emergency doctor because nothing I did would calm him down, and then he eventually calmed down. He's never done anything like that before - he was crying as though he was in pain and wouldn't let me hold him at all, just kept writhing and pushing me away - and then just rolled on the floor sobbing. All the things that would normally distract him and calm him down quite quickly just didn't work. Is this normal behaviour, like a kind of tantrum? Or should I have him checked out to make sure he's not in pain? He's absolutely fine now but it was really upsetting at the time, especially because he wouldn't let me hold him or touch him.

how is he now?

thelittleElf · 29/09/2007 19:09

Oh yes, i can see how i would find that upsetting aswell. Is he alright now? x

It is horrible. How is he now?

My Ds and my nephew did that when they had an ear infection - dont mean to cause alarm if he has settled I would probably let him sleep. Did you try his usual medicine in case he was in pain. I would probably see how he goes and take him doctors if it carries on.

He is most probably fine I just get a bit paranoid on ears because both my ds and nephew suffer with them.

Thanks for your replies - he's been absolutely fine ever since. Although he is getting frustrated easily, I think because he's learning to crawl and finding it frustrating when he has to sit in one place, eg, to eat his dinner. So I'm hoping it was just a one off mad half hour because he seems happy and well in himself now.

My 13month old ds2 was like that yesterday morning. Like you, I was beginning to wonder whether he'd hurt himself, but in the end he sorted himself out. Was perfectly happy for the rest of the day.

Shall we put it down to their age?

Ds2 was terribly grumpy until he learnt to crawl, so it could well be that your ds is deeply frustrated.

glad he ok now

annoyingdevil · 30/09/2007 21:22

Tummy ache? My ds was like this last week, turned out to be a gastro bug

purpleturtle · 30/09/2007 22:20

Maybe. Ds2 dirtied 5 nappies this morning although he has seemed happy enough in himself. He had a very long afternoon sleep today too.
