Sitting up

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering about when babies are supposed to sit up... I've been reading up about it but I'm not sure whether to expect baby to sit up on her own from being lay flat on the floor?
Or me to sit her up and her to stay sitting for a few seconds?
She's not trying to sit up from being lay down at all and she's 7 months old now.
Am I expecting too much?

Thanks

Usually people mean sit up when you've put them into a sitting position. So most typical range is about 6-8 months, sometimes 9 months from what I remember.

However, it's actually better for them
to spend more time on their backs and tummies rollling etc so that they learn how to sit by putting themselves into that position.

How does she feel about tummy time? I found mine couldn’t get to sitting until she could get up on all fours, which came after doing a weird yoga-pose thing with her upper body lifted. These each took a while as she HATED tummy time with a passion. She was far older than 7 months when she could get herself into a sitting position.

She loves tummy time, always rolling onto her front and playing. Just seems to have no desire to sit. At this rate she will be crawling first

@tulalulah it’s not all that unusual to crawl first. They mostly get to sitting by getting onto all fours and then slumping back by accident (and then realise they are sitting). She might well manage to go forwards when crawling, although lots of them rock back and forth on all fours first.

The correct stages are tummy, then up on her hands/arms. Then push backwards. Then legs under and sway on all 4. Then crawl forwards and then one leg under and sit. So sitting is last, and comes anytime between 7-9 months. Best not to rush anything.

Thank you I didn't know that Smilethat makes me feel much better
