When exploring is more exciting than sleep in the middle of the night?

11mth old dd woke up last night about 1.30am and decided she didn't want to sleep. She has recently started pulling herself up to standing and she did this in her cot last night then started crying because she couldn't sit back down. I think all she wants to do is get up and explore which is fine but not in the middle of the night!

She did this last week too and i don't know what to do because i have to keep going in and putting her back to bed and i get the sick to my stomach feeling like i used to when she was a newborn. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi sweet. My DS is now 12 months and for the last 8 weeks we've had these 'sleep' problems ! It's one of two things - either her is fast asleep, but screaming, and crying hysterically, or he stands up in the cot and claps his hands !!! I posted a thread on here - and not many other people had the screaming one, but re. the waking up, everyone told me to just ignore it and he'd eventually go back to sleep.
On the occassions where he is standing up, clapping and laughing (not funny at 3am !) I either ignore him, or if he starts having a tantrum (this is a new addition to his repetoire !) I go in, lay him down, and walk out again - no eye contact, no talking etc. I've had to do this every night for atleast 8 weeks. Then on Sunday this week, he slept through - and has done every night since ! I know it's only 4 nights - but it's a start ! Not sure whether he's grown out of that phase, or whether the routine helped ! Might be worth a try

I think it's a novalty at the moment because she loves the fact she can pull herself up and stand. I go in and lay her down without saying anything but she just stands up again. Last night it happened for an hour and a half until she fell asleep again. I don't think i can just egnore her because she is standing and can't lay back down.

Definitely try ignoring - as soon as I started ignoring, my DS learnt how to get hismelf back down - although, the first few times, he did do flying !!! But my theory was, landing on the mattress from a fairly low centre of gravity, was not going to hurt him too much. Within about 3 or 4 days of this, he could get up and down himself no trouble.

My ds (18mths) recently yelled for me in the middle of the night cos he'd lost his bear. I was crawling around in the dark trying to find it when he pulled it out of his sleeping bag with a huge grin [grrr] Re the standing up thing, I used to play lots of games with ds in his cot so he learned to get up & down himself, once you're happy she's actually ok with that you'll feel much better about ignoring her

lol ! Am loving the bear game !!! Obviously - wouldn't have found it that funny if it was me on the floor looking for it !
My ds has learnt a new word..."gone". This is precedded with him throwing something across the room, then turning his hands to face the ceiling, saying "gone". Funny for the first 2 or 3 times with small objects, then not so funny when he does it with his pretend mobile phone that smacks me round the head as her throws it !
