Beeastfeeding help needed

Dear ladies,

Could you tell me if I need to get an electric breast pump? I am planning to breastfeed ( if I am able to) for the first 2 months only. Will be staying at home, solely taking care of the baby's feeds. For those occasional exceptions where I need a rest, I was planning to get a manual breast pump, so that my partner can step in if needed. But do I really need an electric pump? Or having a manual as "in case" item is more than enough?

Manual breast pumps are a pain in the bum in my opinion! So much effort for little result. If you are only wanting to express occasionally I'd recommend getting something like a medela pump, cheaper than even a manual pump you can use it on the other boob while feeding to collect your letdown through the day, collect the milk in a pot in the fridge and then freeze at the end of the day to give yourself a bit of a store of milk to use when needed. The medela is also easy on the nipples which manual and electric pumps are less so and take some getting used to!

I think maybe @Inthesky42 means a Haakaa breast pump you literally just put it on. I've not used but lots of people love it and use on the breast they are not feeding on. This works when baby is little and falls asleep not wanting to feed both sides.

I've had an electric medals swing and couldn't get much, even after establishing feeding. Tried different settings, high, low more warmup etc. Might of been different with a different pump. Hospital grade is stonger.

Most manual ones means you constantly squeeze the leavers and I can't think of anything more exhausting and awkward.

Personally if it's only two months you want to feed I wouldn't bother to pump . Also if you say pump and then don't feed all night (as pumped milk is given in a bottle ) then you can get engorged and painful breasts, which is harder for the baby to latch onto once you do what to breastfeed and can cause blocked ducts or lead to mastitis.

I wish I got a hakka (aldi version) much earlier than I did...I know people who used it and got sooo much to freeze. I got the medela and this hardly used it!! The hakka was great xx
