10 month old hardly eating solids

He will hardly eat any solids. He will maybe have about 5 mouthfuls at a time and only a few things and refuses to eat anything else. Mostly just toast and sometimes a few mouthfuls of something like mash with a bit gravy and some broccoli but that's it. How do I encourage him? Ive tried giving it before milk but he just won't take it and then will have his milk. I'm scared he's not eating enough. He also doesn't really pick it up himself. I've tried putting the toast in his hand but he just drops it he doesn't even try to put it in his mouth.

Does he pick things up generally? If he's not doing much hand to mouth this might be where to start.

You don't need to worry about his intake at this age.

Try offering a variety of things, let him try your food, try tasty foods and bright colours. He may also like certain textures over others.. sometimes crunchy is preferred over too soft.

At this age, their interest can come and go.

Try not to get worked up about it as he will pick up on it and associate food time with tension. You don't need to stick to meal times for him to try.. whenever he has interest at this stage.

Hi. Same situation here with my 10mth old. He is just not interested at all! He actually went around 2 months refusing everything apart from yoghurt which was so stressful. Then his 2 top teeth came through and he is doing better but like you say, just a few spoonfuls really. I keep trying finger foods but he's not very good with them.
I've actually had to say to myself 'I'll go with it just now and if he's still doing the same at 1 I'll deal with it' because I was worrying myself sick. There are other issues with him so I felt I had to let the eating one slide a bit and assume everyone is right when they say "they won't starve".
I'm sorry I don't have any advice, I know how hard it is but I wanted you to know that another baby is doing the same as yours. I guess just keep doing what you're doing, keep offering and I'm sure with time he will get there when he's ready to.

Hi guys! I know it’s a bit late, but how did you get on? My 10mo is the exact same... only takes a few bites here and there and doesn’t seem interested very much.

Should I worry?

Thanks for your replies- if you’re still out there (on here!) x

@SoraSky how much milk is he having? if you are FFing he only needs 400 ml a day between 10 and 12 months so if he's having much more than this, it might be worth cutting down a bit and seeing if that improves his appetite.
