8 year old tantrums

Hi guys.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on handling tantrums from an 8yo girl who seems to think she is 18?

She is generally quite well behaved. But when she has a tantrum, it's like the end of the world. She throws things. Especially her brothers toys. She will bang around the house, and when she doesn't get the attention she wants, it will get louder and louder. She screams like she's being murdered. Shouts at me if I try and calm her down. We just generally get nothing out of her once it starts. Until she calms herself down. But it can take over an hour for this to happen.

I'm just not sure what the best way is to handle the situations to minimise the tantrums. At the moment I literally just send her to bed and explain why. And if she's good she can come back down and join us. But it just doesn't seem to work.

Thank you x
