Agressive Tantrums from a Twelve Month Old

Has anyone experienced a twelve month old who has incredibly aggressive, prolonged tantrums, up to ten/twelve times a day? If so, how did you manage it and what did you do to calm your child down.

Our daughter will have very rageful tantrums that will last up to half an hour, with absolutely no way to pacify her. She will often hit her head on the floor very hard and will not stop until she is picked up.

We (think) we have tried everything – Holding, reassuring, surprising, moving her into different surroundings, using TV/music/singing.

Any advice/tips would be a massive help as our health visitor has not been helpful in the slightest.

I would say this is quite unusual in a 12MO. Is it recent? She's definitely not teething or poorly or anything. The only thing I'd say especially at such a young age is respond exactly like it sounds you are with kindness and reassurance and gentleness and hopefully she will grow out of it. Might be worth thinking if there's any kind of sensory processing issue or other signs of ASD as well but I wouldn't overthink this as she is still so young xx

For managing the tantrums - could you put her in an empty travel cot so at least she is not hitting her head on a hard floor?
