Behaviour after taking antihistamines

Hi DS is 5 and suffers with hay fever. I have noticed that when he has had Piriton he is really grumpy and extremely moody to the point of ignoring his family members! I thought he was being sulky at first but I do feel there’s a link with Piriton possibly. I switched to Certirizine Hydrochloride instead from the chemist and although it is non drowsy he was having daytime naps and didn’t want to play, was just really not himself. I gave him a break from this and he did seem to be ok, then last night due to his hay fever I decided to give him the certirizine before bed and he woke at 4am fussing and crying for no reason. Has anyone else noticed behaviour and mood changes with antihistamines, and what else can I try for his hay fever if he can’t take the medication? Our GP said all antihistamines are much the same which isn’t the case and want overly helpful. I am convinced his mood and behaviour is effected by the antihistamine. X
