Holding hand whilst walking

My DS (just turned 1) has been walking for the past month, very confident so we pop his reigns on and off we toddle. When we get to a road or veers off course we’ll reach for his hand, grab his hand but he just won’t hold ours and will have a whinge and a moan about it all.
How do we teach him to just bloody hold our hands?

Good luck with that. Neither of mine ever would. You see these toddlers happily holding hands for ages but some just won't!

I also used reigns and would just shorten them and use those instead of holding hands.

My DS hated the pushchair once he could walk so it was hands or the pushchair.
