18 month old dd still no word

My dd is 18months old and still has not said her first word, i have tried everything suggested but nothing has worked. please help!!

My DD2 was exactly the same. DD1 spoke in sentences at about 1, so I worried about DD2. She has just turned 2 and now speaks fairly fluently, it all came together really quickly. Does she understand what you are saying to her? Does she manage to communicate non-verbally? If so, then there really is nothing to worry about. What does the HV say? If everything is normal, just enjoy the silence while you have it! My DD2 has just started asking the 'why' question to everything, really annoying!

i have a 21 month old Ds and he says lots of things that only I knwo are word, plus just a few that others woudl identify. does you DD underatand what you say? does she make lots of sounds?

my dd does not understand much of what i say, she is quite chatty lots of gagagas, but thats about it.

she has started having lots of tantrums lately and i feel its due to frustration with not being able to communicate.

dd is 16 months and only has about six words, but they're more sounds really. you could try playing "fetching games" maybe - i say to dd "fetch me your shoes", "fetch me the teddy" etc. if she's not in the mood she won't do it, but usually is pretty good. she also climbs into her pram if she wants to go out or highchair if she is hungry (yes, she is the spawn of spiderman!).

fetching games were a good way for me to confirm that she understood me, even if she didn't "talk" to me. try not to worry too much

if you try and she doens't seem to respond or seem interested, keep on trying, but at different times of day etc - she might just not be in the mood.

is dd your 1st klover? ds2 didn't speak until he was 2. he did have glue ear discovered at 18months but also was lazy cos ds1 did all the talking! See your HV and ask for hearing test they measure timpanic membrane (think thats right!) and can tell you very easily if hearing is impared. ds2 now 6 and has fantastic speech and in fact never shuts up

dd is 19 mo just started talking. We were worried, but reassured that if her comprehension is fine, there probably is no problem, just take them time to start.
Does she use her own language? (ie babble away in what sounds like gujerati mixed with welsh LOL)

BTW, no she started, we get 2 or 3 new words a day. And her enunciation is good- looks like she was just waiting until she could say them properly!

klover - does she really not understdna you?

if you ask "woudl you like [favourite food or drink]? ", does she go to teh fridge or cupbaord?

if you say "lets go out", does she go and get her shoes or jacket or go to the door?

if you tell her its bathtime, does she go to teh bathroom or pull at her clothes?

if you say " where are your shoes" does she look at them or point at them?

if she doesnt do thsi i woudl be worried TBH. I woudlnt worry about her not saying any words though and i woudl definitely stop trying to get her to talk. its much more inportant that she understands you
