My 4 year old has turned into demonic monster since starting school.

he is currently rolling around the kitchen floor sceaming "I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL"
every morning is a challenge, he has become rude and argumentative, extremely cheeky.

Know the feeling, as my DS2 is going through exactually the same, and it's a nightmare!
School seems to be really tiring him out too.

Sorry, no advice, just empathy!

It is all the effort involved in school - both in behaving and conforming for 6.5 hours, and in all the stuff he is learning. So he is a git the rest of the time - and the bad news is that he probably will be until Christmas with brief respite at half term. TBH DS was bad right through until Feb half term, but he was getting poorly as well with the exposure to new germs.

Well he cried all the way to school, told me he had no friends, nobody talks to him, he wants to stay at home and play with me etc.

Outside the school whilst waiting to go in he is crying and clinging to me, begging me to take him home.

I go into the class with him and sit with him at the table, do a few drawings with him- then tell him I have to go- he was ok with this.
As I left the class I spoke to the teacher about his apparent 'hatred' of school and mentioned him saying that nobody talks to him - she was amazed and said that he is one of the most confident, popular ones- she has even offered to take 'covert' pics of him today to prove just how happy he is in class.

I think someone is spinning me a yarn and would rather be at home watching the Tweenies.

Still doesnt explain his bad behaviour- but as Bozza says- he obv doesnt want to be good all the time!!

I really think there is something in that you know emma. DS is in Y2 now, but his friend (they have been friends since they were babies) comes round after school and he is messy, boisterous, silly, and basically generally annoying. He comes to play on Saturday mornings and he is a totally different child, he chats, engages in things and is lovely.

My DD has been a nightmare since she started school. She loves going, and is well behaved whilst she's there but comes home and shouts, demands things, cries, screams and has hysterical fits over nothing (such as DS getting out of the bath first.

My DD's older (8)but there still can be a bit of the Jekyll&Hyde. She had come home with glowing report saying what a good girl she was, polite, considerate blah de blah. So when she was being extremely (and audibly) cheeky in the swimming pool changing rooms, I asked if I'd got the right girl to go with the report. "Yes mum I'm good at school but I get so BLOODY SICK OF IT". I'm afraid I collapsed into laughter too much to reprimand the swearing.

I've just started a thread about what a horror DS was today - he too has started reception. Took him to a soft play after school which was full of "older" children( he's used to going in the day when they are all at school) Parents basically came to tell me that he was being really really rough and pushing, shoving and pulling hair He's always boistrous (sp?) but I was mortified. Can't stop thinking about it. At least I know I did the right thing by taking him out the moment I found out but I am just so so shocked at his behaviour

I too am having attitude that was not there before school began. DS1 is 5 and in year 1.
Eg. Please pick up your toys...

DS1: WELL, if you do that, I will get a bin bag and throw YOU away!
I think they have to conform for so long at school they have to let off steam somehow!
And I suppose that they are out of control all day in school too - they need to re-assert themselves when they come home!
