does anyone's elses 12mo not play with ANYTHING?!

My 12mo ds just potters around all day! He seems perfectly happy. I have shown books, shape sorters etc. all the usual stuff. He may be engaged in one of these for all of 3 mins but the rest of the time he potters around moving things, putting things in the bin, opening cupboards etc, flusing the toilet . Love him dearly for it but just wondering what all your lo's are doing at similar ages....

As far as I can remember - talking to her reflection in the TV screen, opening cupboards, moving things, pulling things out of drawers, climbing all over dogs, generally just 'being helpful'!

awww! that's so refreshing. I have hazy memories of dd (now 9yo) sitting looking at books, trying those wooden puzzles, taking things out of jars and putting them back again etc. But not my boy !!! Structured activity? Forget it ! His latest thing is to put things in inappropriate places and hide under my washing on the line . Is it because he is a boy???

my ds2 is 14 months and also is not particularly interested in his toys. he likes the big serving spoons, the dishwashet cutlery tray thing, he loves his brothers packedlunch box and his book bag, his fave at the moment, is dp's sunglasses and ds1's goggles.

he has also taken to eating cat biscuits that i spilt on the floor and missed sweeping some up, which he has found!!
nevermind, he will be immune to everything

Messy play with the cat's food and water bowls, pulling all the dishes out of the cupboards, carrying the phone around, pulling the contents of my bag out and carrying them around, stalking the cat, clearing any not-yet-cleared surfaces, pulling books out of bookcases, opening and shutting the tape deck bit of the stereo lots of times, playing with any remote control, using the highchair as a walker, pulling clothes out of drawers.

Meanwhile, we have two boxes of pretty much pristine unplayed with toys gathering dust - oh, except the box of 100 bricks someone bought him. They're mostly under the sofa.

I have come to the conclusion that toys for babies are pretty much just a way to get people to part with more cash.

Ours will play with anything as long as it's not a toy. Obviously, things which are sharp/high up/fragile/irreplaceable/belong to the dog are especially fascinating.

lol at all your lo's antics! Mine is currently squashing the lving daylights out of our cat who does not share the same level of affection for ds as ds does for him
