Responding to name

I hadn't had any concerns for my babies development until I googled when should they respond to name and apparently she's behind!

For background, she babbles, claps, waves, follows my point, smiles, laughs, loves peekaboo.

Now I'm worrying slightly, she has responded a couple times in the past but not consistently like it says she should be doing, obviously because of covid she's missed her 9month HV check so wise mumsnetters should I be worrying? When did your child respond to their name?

Thanks

Oh I forgot the most important bit her age, doh! She’s 10 and half months

I wouldn't worry too much of everything else is fine.

How often do you say her name to her? Do you use a nickname? Partly it just depends on how often they hear it! If you always call her 'sweetpea' or something she's not going to respond to being called 'Jane'.

That’s a good point, I probably call her baby or big girl more than her actual name. I’ll work on calling her her name more and see how it goes, thankyou!

Grin Give calling her baby or big girl a go and see if she responds to that. Lots of babies answer to a nickname more than their own name. One of mine answered to 'munchy' for ages!

Awww, I’ll give it a go, thankyou!

I think my daughter thought she was called Bubsy until she was about 2 1/2 as we called her that far more than her actual name!

DS is 11 months and is only occasionally responding to his name now. We use his name a lot but he’s not quite grasped it yet.

I wouldn’t worry unless it goes on well past a year.

That’s good to hear, I’d never worried about her development and then I googled about responding to name and the first thing that’s comes up is a study saying most children who don’t respond to their name by 12 months have autism!

I have to make a conscious effort to call my son his actual name in case of this.

I do quite like munchkin man though 😂

I am calling her her name no nicknames and having the tv completely off so fingers crossed she’ll pick it! The nhs site says it’s a 12 month skill so think I’ve just been panicking after dr Google!
