2yr old won't wear clothes - HELP

I know it doesn't sound too bad in itself. She will only keep clothes on if we are going out and then only if she chooses her own (and its nearly always a dress - regardless of the weather). Problem a I don't have that many dresses for her and have yet to see that many I can afford (I know I'm a cheapo) Problem b I know its not a huge thing but if the front door goes and shes running around in just a nappy I feel like such an abusive mother. Its not as if she's too hot as the house isn't that warm. Any ideas?

no ideas (if I had, then my two wouldn't currently be completely naked) but just wanted to reassure you that it is completely normal.

She will wear clothes when she wants to, and if she doesn't want to, don't stress about it - if someone comes to the door, just tell them that they can only come in if they don't mind naked children running around

You are very lucky that she will wear clothes to go out - it took me months to persuade dd2 that this was necessary (kept turning round in Tescos to find she had stripped off while I was looking at the merchandise!)

Have a look in places like matalan or Primark for cheap clothes or go to second hand shops. And don't worry about her not wearing clothes in the house - as long as she is warm enough she is fine so it doesn't make you abusive in any way.

DS is 7 and is forever stripping off in the house. I make him put his pants back on but only becuase being a boy he cant stop fiddling with himself

Have exactly same problems with my DD2 (just 2yrs). This morning it was freezing ( but not ready to put heating on!), dropped DD1 off at school and off came the clothes. It's worse because she has an older sister who is clothes obsessed. Also have same problem with only wearing dresses with both of them, so I now get on Ebay and buy loads of dresses for them. On the up side, wearing dresses makes it much easier now she is potty trained, she only has to worry about lifting her dress, not pulling trousers down. Best thing is when she will only wear her wellies with her dresses!

BF's son had both the nekkid and the welly thing at once at that age. OK until he tripped in the garden and landed in the biggest patch of nettles.
Came in all blotchy saying 'Mummy - big ow!'

DS still prefers to be naked when we are at home & he is 3. Callers are fine with it really...I just smile & say how lovely it would be to be 3 again with no cares in the world & they generally nod & agree!

I see no point in trying to get him to wear clothes when all that does is increase my washing loads as he generally forgets to go to the loo or doesn't make it in time if he is wearing pants....so I'm enjoying it while it lasts as I know one day he will be far to self conscious to do it. Let her be a toddler I say!

Both my dc had this, they would fling all their clothes off when we got in the house - they loved their wellies too and would quite happily go out in t-shirt, nappy and wellies. we were lucky as we lived in a village in Germany and no one batted an eyelid and they did eventually grow out of it!
One thing I noticed is that they were more likely to keep soft jogging suits on than jeans or cords, so anything soft really. Little ones often get bothered by butons, labels etc. Could be a reason for the stripping off maybe.

thanks all. i know in the grand scheme of it all that beautiful toddler nakedness is no big deal. SOmeone just made a comment about a little girls parents who were reported to ss as the neighbours noticed her peering out of a window undressed and looking sad. Just made me a bit paranoid. I know if ss were to come round they'd be more than welcome as i've nothing to hide. But you know how crazy us moms get sometimes . . .

Don't think the SS will be bothered about your dd running round happy in her nappy.

My DS does it all the time, if ss are bothered they can have a go at making him get dressed.

Isn't it sad that we worry about this sort of thing?

my logic tells me one thing, but occasionally stupid nappy head moomy brain takes over. (same one that just put teasponn in bin, and used tea bag in fridge?!?!)

yup, know the feeling. I set off with ds1 on buggy board and pram on the way to nursery this morning. Just as I was shutting the door realised I'd left the baby on his mat!!!

this is a phase, my 2.6 year old is just coming out of. spent the summer with mostly wearing pants or a pull up or nothign!! saved on the washing

Don't worry about it. A year ago, when my daughter was around 2 (birthday in November) she was just the same. She only ever wanted to wear a nappy and possibly pyjamas. Getting her into jeans and a t-shirt to leave the house required bribery. I bought her lovely Start-Rite shoes that she never wore - she would only ever wear wellies.

She got over it. Yours will. It's not worth a battle
