Parents whose child had a hearing problem

Hi all. I'm worried my son may have a development issue. He's 3 years old, good at labelling things (car, elephant, apple etc.) but has a delay in his speech. His sentences are limited to "Daddy?, yes DS (answering his own question), let's go". There are also some other behaviours which are a bit off and definitely stands at at nursery.

Since birth he has failed hearing test. Literally spent everyone month of last year regularly taking him to test for them to finally diagnose him with glue ear, only to spend more months on a waiting list go get grommets inserted and only for that surgery to be cancelled due to the current pandemic.

For those who had a child with a hearing issue, did you see significant improvement regarding their speech? Language specialist keeps saying I'll be surprised what difference it makes but I doubt this. Though I don't know how my son hears, he can definitely hear well. For example, a song can be playing downstairs low enough that I would probably not hear it if I was distracted by something else but he'll pick this up and mumble along with it fine.

I've not experienced it no sorry, but I do know that you can join the National Deaf Children's Society if you're child has glue ear.

Around here they have regular meet-ups and offer support and information.

If his speech is limited, it might be worth reaching him some signs whilst you're on the waiting list too Thanks
