Behavioural issues with DC - child psychologist?

Hi there - I'm new here, so I'm not sure if it's ok to ask for recommendations, though I couldn't see anything in the guidelines to say it's not allowed.

Our DC, aged 8, really has a lot of anger within her. She has really violent tantrums when she doesn't get her way, which currently flares up because she wants to spend most of the day on her ipad and refuses to get involved in any schoolwork at all. I know it's tough for our kids during lockdown, however our other children are coping far better than she is.

It's not just about us all going a bit stir crazy during lockdown, she has always taken things to extremes when she doesn't get her own way. She is a very intelligent girl, and lovely when she puts her mind to being so, but her behaviour when she acts out is just really upsetting for the rest of us. And it's really odd that she refuses to learn at home, because she is a real star at school and all the teachers have nothing but great things to say about how well she is doing and how well behaved she is. I know kids are often angels at school and then act out at home, but this isn't normal acting out - we are talking about shouting and screaming that goes on for hours at a time, telling us how we don't understand her life, how she hates us and wishes she didn't have us as parents, all manner of hurtful things she tries to throw our way.

In short, I would just like to talk it through with a professional, and if possible to have someone talk to her privately to try to find out what's wrong. As she won't tell us - all she says, in her calmer moments, is that she can't help it and that she will try really hard to be nicer the next day (which promise is quickly forgotten the next day).

So if you have any recommendations (if that's allowed) for a child psychologist in the North London area (Finchley, Whetstone, Barnet etc), someone who you have actually used for your DC and would really vouch for, that would really very much appreciated. Actually, anyone in the Greater London/South-East area would be fine really. As things stand, we are only going to be able to have a telephone or video consultation for the foreseeable future anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Really sorry, I don't have any recommendations. She does however sound incredibly like my DD who is currently being assessed for ADHD and ASD.

It might be worth reading up on how ASD presents in girls and the different types of ADHD before speaking to anyone.

She sounds a bit like my DD who is 7. She has ‘anger’ issues we were only beginning to work on intensively with the school before lockdown and this has set things back a bit.

I can’t recommend a London professional as we are in Scotland but I can say it’s well worth it - I felt much better knowing help was available and that the support was there.
