I went to see a friend last week (I have a 20 month old ds) and her 3 year old is really loud and in your face.....are all little boys like this ?? That may sound dim as I appreciate that all children are different but my dh commented and said something like " I hope [ds] doesn't turn out like that at that age, I don't think I'd cope" - lame of dh as you cope with what you've got but just interested.....

My boys are quite loud and exciteable - they are 6, 4 and 3. Not hyper but just boys really!

Peachy · 16/09/2007 18:02

Yes.

Very loud.

Even ds3 who is non verbal (or was totally at that age) managed to be very loud

ear muffs

I have a 2 year old boy and he only has 2 volumes loud and silent .......oh no there's a 3rd - louder ...... for when you don't respond quick enough!!!

Gobbledigook · 16/09/2007 18:03

I must admit - mine are loud when together but not particularly when they are on their own.

Nemo2007 · 16/09/2007 18:03

oh yes
I remember thinking the same when DS was a serene little toddler..now he is 4 next month and a noise machine. He talks, shouts, sings and generally makes noise pretending to be different things. DD1 is now the serene toddler at 21mths

chocolateteapot · 16/09/2007 18:04

Mine is quieter than my DD was at this age.

mine ds is very loud, he is 6 now, I think he feels he has to shout louder as he is no4 and theres a bigger gap between him and the others. I think he feels that if he shouts the loudest he'll get what he wants.

mum2sons · 16/09/2007 18:22

My Ds2 is nearly 3 and is loud, boistrous and never sits still

Niecie · 16/09/2007 18:29

Yes, both my boys are very loud. They are worse together, one is always shouting to be hear over the other. Even his teacher has labelled DS1 one of the 3 loud children in the class.

I spent the whole of the summer holidays telling them both to speak more quietly. It worked for about 30 seconds and then the volume started to rise again. I just hope they grow out of it!

Bluestocking · 16/09/2007 18:29

My DS is 3.6 and seems to have only one tone of voice - stentorian - in which he says the same thing over and over again - "MUM! MUM!! MUM!!!" is obviously a favourite, interspersed with car/plane/unidentifiable weapon-of-mass-destruction noises, and peculiar catchphrases gleaned from who knows where - "I'M FARMER PICKLES" is one currently puzzling me. Needless to say, all this noise prevents him from ever hearing a word I say, unless I get right in front of him and shout, and then his eyes fill up and he says, "Mummy, don't shout at me."

Niecie · 16/09/2007 18:31

I get that too Bluestocking!

Not for me that technique where you whisper to a child so that they stop shouting to hear what you are saying. I have to join in with the shout-fest just to be heard!

bamzooki · 16/09/2007 18:32

Mine is - like McDreamy says - 2 volumes - loud and asleep/uptosomething.
MIL told me that boys in her family were usually a 'noise surrounded by mess', so I blame her for it all.

But I do know of others who are not.

Isababel · 16/09/2007 18:34

Nice thing of having a boy since he is a baby is that you gradually get used to all the things you thought would never be able to cope with.

LilianGish · 16/09/2007 18:34

PML Mcdreamy - you just described my four-year-old son. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread - it makes me feel SO much better. Why can't boys come with a volume control?

popsycal · 16/09/2007 18:34

mine are loud
just 5 and 2 and a half

popsycal · 16/09/2007 18:36

actuallt - mine are like gobbledigook's boys. Loud together but not so much on their own

becaroo · 16/09/2007 18:40

My ds (who was 4 in June) is incredibly loud....much more so since he started nursery last sept.

herbgarden · 16/09/2007 19:23

Oh well no hope for ds then, he already never shuts up and is noisy. People comment that "oh he's a chatty one isn't he"...........

Mine is loud. He is nearly 10 and has always been loud. dd is like a mouse in comparison.

AllieBongo · 16/09/2007 19:27

yes, and they stay loud, but gain attitude by time they reach 6 or 7

Spidermama · 16/09/2007 19:38

My boys are very loud and so is there dad. They are 7, 5 and 2. My dd and I are quiet types and I think it's a real shame for us. Really I do. When it's just the two of us the atmosphere is completely different so she and I live most of our lives in an alienating and oppressive environment.

It sounds awful, but it's true. My boys talk loudly nearly all the time and they're not being naughty or aggressive, they just happen to be really full on.

DH is loud and crashy bashy. I come from a quiet family.

DS1 is very loud at 3 and repeats things over and over until he is happy you have given him a satisfactory reply. Arrrggghhh. He is good fun though.
