I went to see a friend last week (I have a 20 month old ds) and her 3 year old is really loud and in your face.....are all little boys like this ?? That may sound dim as I appreciate that all children are different but my dh commented and said something like " I hope [ds] doesn't turn out like that at that age, I don't think I'd cope" - lame of dh as you cope with what you've got but just interested.....

Bluestocking - Farmer Pickles is from Bob the Builder!

My ds (4) is the loudest child I have ever come across. It was getting to the point where I made appt with HV to have his ears checked as i worried he must be deaf!

surely they grow out of it [hopeful emoticon]

I think boys and girls are as adults are: quiet, loud, shy, boisterous, laid-back, live-wire, depending on personality traits. I know little boys who are quiet, quite 'clingy' for their Mummy etc and others who fit the 'little boy' stereotype perfectly.

I am constantly aware of how noisy my kids are (girls, 3.9 and 1.1), especially as we are surrounded by neighbours... if I can hear them take a piss then I know they can hear our every noise... God knows how they coped during cc with dd2!

The realisation I've reached is that we must just be a noisy type of family and household... after all, as parents we are the role-models, aren't we?

IdrisTheDragon · 16/09/2007 19:52

DS is 3.10 and isn't really that loud. I think DD (very nearly 2) is louder than him.

fillyjonk · 16/09/2007 19:55

not especially. dd is just as bad.

Tbh, its probably not a boy thing. If you have a quiet 20 mo, ANY 3/4 yo will probably seem pretty loud and in your face.

Tell your dh that its bascially a good thing, confidence and so forth...

3andnomore · 16/09/2007 20:00

my ms is the noissiest...well, until ys has a tantrum...when he goes off on one of those he could weake the dead....

Girls can be equally noisy...it really just depends on the Kids temperament.

americantrish · 16/09/2007 20:18

our ds is 3.2 and is loud. and active. i have friends who have boys and girls around this age...some loud, some quiet.

your dh doesnt think he'd cope?
he will. because each stage prepares us for the next

herbgarden · 16/09/2007 20:58

DH will suddenly get a noisy ds but be unaware of the journey I suppose. It's like I can't imagine having a teenager invading our life in the future....but I suspect I'll just look at ds one day when he's a teenager and think "when did that happen" IYSWSIM..I don't think I'm making any sense whatsoever !

Bluestocking - I know what you mean about the random catchphrases that they shout out. DS (3.2) current one is " Norman Price" (which I can only presume is from some TV prog or story).

On the whole he is a chatterbox who can be noisy but I think the noise levels have definitely risen since hes been at nursery.

louismummy · 16/09/2007 21:20

bettispagetti norman price is the naughty boy in fireman sam!!!

wohmum · 16/09/2007 21:25

We've got a 4yr old who never stops making noises - if he's not talking to us or at his brother, he's singing, humming, chatting to himself - CONSTANTLY! quiet when he's asleep or occasionaly glued to his fave programme, , but otherwise just noisy!

louismummy -that explains a lot as DS says it in a deep, teacher's telling-off type voice.

The first time he said it I just couldn't stop laughing.

Bluestocking · 17/09/2007 09:31

Thanks, GGL! It's always nice to know where these things come from. My niece and nephew (now 18 and 16) used to say "Barclaycaaaard" in a special silly voice which I think originated with the Rowan Atkinson ads!

Desiderata · 17/09/2007 09:42

Yes, mine came with a volume control that goes up to 11.

I call him Foghorn Leghorn.

DottyDot · 17/09/2007 09:43

No and yes. Ds1 was still refusing to speak at around 3 - not much anyway. Ds2 is 3 and is the LOUDEST BOY IN THE UNIVERSE... He's completely deafening and I'm just hoping that age/school/wearing his vocal chords out will happen in the next year or so.

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2007 09:45

Mine is 5 and can be extremely loud. Not all the time though. He gets really loud when meeting people he doesn't know, it's a form of showing off.

stitch · 17/09/2007 09:47

wait till they becoe ten. thats when they really get going with their noise levels.

Blueblob · 17/09/2007 09:49

At home my 2 year old is either very sedate and quiet or LOUD, no inbetween. Whilst the 6 year old is full on non stop irritatingly chatty but not too loud voulme wise most of the time.

However when both get overexcited or together the volume is ear bursting. When we go somewhere or get visitors they manage to increase the volume by a further notch.

choosyfloosy · 17/09/2007 09:52

ds is capable of being loud but hates loud noises himself, particularly noises suggesting anger or distress - he puts his hands over his ears and his face goes all wrinkly. TOO NOISY is his constant refrain. We also do a lot of whispering because daddy or mummy are asleep [aged knackered parents emoticon]. That would be because he is an only one I guess - he is fairly loud with other children.

hope i haven't warped him and made him into quiet psychopath type [worries]

bambi06 · 17/09/2007 10:03

you wait till they hit 7!....mine drives me crazy!!!!

InMyHumbleOpinion · 17/09/2007 10:09

Yes, IME. Little boys of 3 and 4 are very loud and uncontrollable. Good natured though, for the most part

law3 · 17/09/2007 10:36

yes in a nutshell. I have a 3.6 year old, he doesnt speak, he shouts!!

law3 · 17/09/2007 10:38

oh yea and then when they get to 11, they quiten down slightly, but then talk constantly.

Desiderata · 17/09/2007 14:50

Yes, until they get to thirteen, when they stop speaking completely.

The silence, after so many years, is deafening!

law3 · 17/09/2007 14:54

deisy - lol, you obviously have a teenager as well!!

They do break that silence with 'thats soooooooo unfair' and you dont love me!!
