I feel bad for my 2yo now with all the virus stuff going on we he was meant to start nursery but now on hold and we can't go to meet other kids his age due to lockdown so will my question is will he still be learning? I'd hate for him to fall behind

I really wouldn't worry, there's no real benefit in sending them to Nursery until they are 3. Lots of people choose too, and there's nothing wrong with that but from a development point of view there isn't really any advantage to going before 3.

What sort of things are you worried he'll miss out on?

Also, don't forget that none of the other children are going either Smile

I guess I'm worried he will miss out on interacting with other kids. I was hoping nursery would help with his speech too

Talk to him and read to him as much as you can. Play simple word games. Children that young aren't very social beings, so don't worry to much on that front.

I do all that and will continue obviously

If you have concerns about his speech, have you spoken to your HV? Is she concerned at all?

Wouldn’t worry at all. None of mine went until pre school nursery at 3. As long as he’s getting enough stimulation/play at home he’ll be fine. If you’re worried about his speech you can self refer to speech and language therapy (in my area anyway), though appointments will probably be postponed just now.
