Baby doesn't swallow

Hi,

So my son is 7.5 months and he is being baby led weaned because he hates to be spoon fed and refuses if the spoon is given to him, so I had to choose the baby led weaning option which he had responded well to. However, although he has accepted everything I have offered him, he doesn't swallow the food. He will bite some off, explore with his mouth then push it back out of his mouth. I called the HV about this and she said if it continues when he is 9 months then, he will get speech and language, however she also mentioned that it could just be new textures and he's still learning to swallow.

I'm writing this to see if any other mothers has experienced this with their child and did they in the end swallow their food???

Many Kind Regards,

A confused worried mum!!!

I've not had that sorry. Is he definitely not swallowing any of it? No change in his poo at all?

Well there is some change in poo's as I do see bits, but no change in wanting less milk, which just makes me think he's unintentionally swallowing pieces and basically spitting everything he can out. So it just makes me think he's not digesting enough as he does to like to intentionally swallow. I don't really know what to do next Sad

How do you feel about waiting till he's nine months before you get a referral to SLT? Would your HV refer you now if you are that worried?

Just for a bit of reassurance, if his nappies have changed, he is eating and it's very normal for them not to have dropped feeds at this young age Smile
