Lots of snot

DS (2.8) had snot all through last winter. I took him to the doc's and they said not to worry and it would probably clear up by spring. It didn't so I went back and they reluctantly prescribed ABs. Snot cleared up in 2 days (discovered he was allergic to penicillin though). Later in the summer he had a cold at the same time he had really bad chicken pox which infected his eczema. Again he was prescribed non-penicillin ABs and his skin and cold cleared up pretty quickly. Two weeks ago we all had colds and yet again his snot has returned, always in the left nostril, constantly streaming after he wakes up. You can hear the cataarh rattle about as he tries to clear his nose and you can even smell it. If it's not cleared by next week again, I'm going back to docs as the ABs certainly seem to get rid of it very quickly but does anyone have any experience of this and why it keeps returning?

Someone had suggested a dairy allergy but surely that would mean the ABs would have no effect whatsoever! They have worked a treat the twice they have been prescribed and he's been snot free in between colds.

dd2 has always been in varying stages of bunged-up-ness.

Rhinitis (snotty clogged nose) is very common amonbst children with eczema. Having her adenoids out didn't make much difference. She's near;y 9 and we're still waiting for her tubes to grow big enough to allow better snot-clearing.

I think (but can't really remember) that it's all to do with teh body of an eczema child basically fighting itself the whole time. So whenever dd has ABs they work a treat too.

(Sympahthies re the infected pox. Dd had that too and is riddled with pox scars)
