Newborn formula advice

hi, ftm here. In the last week I've switched from breast to formula for my ds ( 12 days old )
I am finding he is feeding every 1 - 2 hours through the night taking 2 oz at a time but through the day will happily go 4 - 5 hours then taking 4 oz.
midwives had said he should take 3 oz every 4 hours but the feed on demand.
I guess my question is, is he feeding ok? is this normal behaviour?

I wouldn't expect a newborn to go 4 hours between feeds. At this stage they often have night and day mixed up. During the day I'd feed at least 3 hourly (mine was more like 2 hourly at that stage).

If you are feeding on demand, you'll be fine.

You might want to work on him being mixed up between day and night though.

If you have a DH/DP, get him to wake and change baby and then feed him around 6.30/7am. If you have a garden or balcony get him outside too. The daylight will help set his internal clock.

Then wake him every 3 hours in the day, if you can. I definitely wouldn't let him go more than 3 hours without trying a feed.

There is some information here on encouraging him to feed if he'd prefer to sleep. It's aimed at BFers but the tips are useful however you feed your baby Smile

Try to get him outside at least one other time during the day too. The daylight really will help.
