Autism?

Hi lovely mums, I been reading the forum for a while and now I am in need of opinion/ advice or reassurance. I am a first time mum and a bit with anxiety.
I have started to suspect that my little girl 7 month might be a bit autistic.
Reasons to believe:
-Not babbling like “dada or baba” she is more doing ahhh, ehee, abu... and I heard her 2 pr 3 time saying ba.

  • Tensing her arms and body when laying down on her back.
  • Started to roll over from back to tummy at 6 month but in a weird way, not traditional corkscrew way, she goes on her side, then rolls almost like with the whole body)
  • Not rolling back form tummy to back ( she knows how to do it, did it at 9 weeks)
  • Very often doing funny noise like humming, grunting.
  • Not responding consistently to her name 3 times out of 5
  • Not crawling and not sitting without support, sometimes I feel like she is in slow motion.
  • Playing with her hands ( it looks like she is virtually washing them)
  • Smiling selectively to other people and being very serious.
  • Not interested in solids ( eats only if she likes it and , couple of spoons only)
  • Not interested in playing with other babies, she just sits and watches other people or babies.

Things that makes me think she is not autistic

  • Good eye contact
  • Smiling back and laughing (only to people she is familiar) she never smiles at strangers and is always very serious.
  • Responding to her name 3 times out of 5
  • Talking back when I repeat her sounds. Looks like we have a conversation.
  • Plays with toys
Did any of your baby had above behaviour and what was the outcome? Am I right to be concerned or I am being simply neurotic and reading too much?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

It is way, way too early to tell f you baby is showing signs and sone of the things you list, like not playing with other children might not happen for a couple of years.

If you still have concerns when she 16 months you could do the m-chat test, but until then, please just enjoy your baby Smile

That all sounds really normal. It's way too young to know one way or the other so just enjoy her and play and talk lots with her. Pretty much all mine said until about 12MO was Abu and vowel sounds and now she's almost 2 and pretty good with her talking (sentences and I'd say around 200 words and increasing every day) She's very social too. I've seen a lot of people panicking about their babies not crawling at really quite young ages. I don't know where people are getting their ideas from but my understanding is that typically babies crawl any time from about 8 months to a year if they crawl at all. Mine didn't crawl til 8.5 months and pulled to stand and cruised a couple of weeks before this I think and she's pretty ahead with her physical skills (jumping a bit, very well balanced, riding a balance bike). It'd be unusual for a baby to be mobilising too much before 8 months I think. Just relax and enjoy her. It gets TOUGH once they can sneak out of your sight, into your cupboards and up your stairs and even tougher when they learn to answer you back so just enjoy the peace whilst it lasts Grin xx

@JiltedJohnsJulie and Jannt86 thank you so much for your kind responses. I am enjoying her so much, everyday she brings us more and more joy. As a first time mum, I am constantly worrying and want all the best for her. I promised myself that I will no longer chase the milestones and read dr. Google.

Oh God, don't start reading google. It's full of articles that have no evidence to back them up Smile

This is a good book and it covers ages one to four. That might help when she's a bit older.

Hi, i have same worries. My baby is 8.5 month old. She can roll over both ways but also not in traditional way like corkscrew. She never rolled 2 or more times in a row to reach a destination, but only rolls over to change position. She has not crawled yet, but can sit unassisted. She hardly answers to her name. Has good eye contact. Hates to be in sun. Eat solid well. Does not communicate back and forth. In short, she has many issues that worry me. I am just hoping she is a slow learner. And my mood swings based on how she is doing 😔

mishimab · 15/03/2020 13:52

Oh she also plays with her hands a lot, since she was 2 month old.

Hii @Petitegirl @mishimab do you have an update how your littles ones got on?

Thanks.
