Getting my 1 year old dressed is a nightmare

My little 1 year old lad has screaming hissy fits every time I get him dressed. I am starting to get quite stressed, I have tried everything, talking to him, singing to him, even shouting at him (I dont like shouting!). Does anybody else have this problem?

Yes, my DD went through phases of this (and still does - she's 3!). Have you tried doing a peekaboo type thing as you pull things over his head, eg say where's DS, here he is!
Donn't think shouoting would help with a 1 year old, distraction is the key

Nice one - although I have tried the peekaboo - I dont know whether I am hurting him! He is a strapping little fella - but I am not rough with him - but the way he screams! wow - my mum and dad and partner laugh - oh getting dressed is he blah blah!

I mean even when any of us dress him - its not just me - he screams with all of us! Its more like temper than anything - is it a phase then?

are you telling him whats going to happen next, boy didn't like things going over his head with out warning.

No I tell him when I am taking stuff off - like taking your top off, now comes the nappy - I dont say when am putting things on - by this time hes normally screaming!

It sounds like my 1 yr old and nappy changes which inspire all manner of wriggling and squawking.

I have also tried singing etc. I found letting him stand up helped, it was partly because he was frustrated with laying on his back. I do occasionally get peed upon but not often.

Are you dressing your LO on his back? Could you change where you dress him, or anything else that might distract?

good luck by the way!

This sounds crazy but I taught my 13 month old daughter to do a Mexican Wave.. At first, I'd shout Mexican Wave and pull her two arms into the air - she loved it. Then she started moaning about getting dressed/undressed so I shout "Mexican wave" - the arms shoot up and I pull off her clothes or put them on very quickly!

I started it as a joke but it's working out great now
