Someone tell me they go through the same things please

This morning ds (6) would not do anything because I wouldn't let him take a toy to school. I Had to drag him to the car, put him in it and then drag him out when I got to school (and yes I do mean drag )
Once in school he tried running back out the door. I gave him time out and told him to stay there while I dropped dd (3) at nursery which is across the playground.
I drop her off and asked her to put her lunchbox in the fridge which she wouldn't do so I did and then she hit me and told me I was naughty, I decided she could have timeout too, so I sat her on the chair and the staff were great and got the timer out and spoke to her (she was bawling by this point) I went back over to ds and he ran out to me and gave me a huge cuddle and said sorry
as I left there the nursery manager came out and said dd was fine and she just sternly told her what she did to me wasn't acceptable. DD must have heard me as she started bawling again so the manager told her to calm down and she would see if she could find me. I went in had cuddles then left.
This seems to be the norm in the mornings these days and it is really starting to get me down
I really wish I could give up work so I don't have to go through this in the mornings but I don't have a lot of choice at the moment

Hi whoops - just got into work, logged on, and could mirror your experiences this morning! My 6yr old dd has been playing up alot lately, I think a mixture of testing the boudaries and having just started yr 2 (she is the youngest in the year). Coupled with a very very determined headstrong 2nd daughter 2.5 yrs does make the mornings seem like a nightmare. The only thing I can say is a) you are note alone! and b) the actions you took sound absolutley spot on, well done. I'm not sure I could have been quite so well controlled in your situation! Also I find Fridays (end of the week) always a nightmare ref behaviour and can only assume end of the week.

I've been sat here feeling crap that I leave my kids like that - dh never deals with any of it as he has to leave the house at 7am
I feel that people look at me and think I let my kids run riot which I try my hardest for them not too!

I know it is so hard - my DH works away most of the week and can sometimes drop off/pick up (which he loves to do). I am just hoping it is the clash of both ages moving up the independant learning curve and really testing the boundaries . I often say my children have turned me into a fish wife!

Your obviously very busy and it does sound like the kids are missing spending time with you.

Would you have time to spend say 10 minutes each with them in the evenings. Perhaps reading a book or playing a game. Then when you drop them off you could remind them they would have some 'special time' later.

Also perhaps a compromise in the mornings, take a toy, you play with it in the car, then leave it in the car for later.

Sounds like your DD is just copying her brother. My 3 year old tells me to go to my room, as he has heard me say it to his brothers.
