arghh - this is driving me potty - ^why^ will DS3 (14 weeks) not feed until he's so hungry he's crying???

He's now feeding (roughly) ever 2 1/2hrs - taking anything from 4-8oz - last feed was just before 9.30 so at 12 I warmed his milk up (despite all our best efforts he won't drink it room temp ). He was giving all his usual "signs" (furious finger sucking, trying to get milk out of anything that went near his mouth etc) He just "played" with the teat in his mouth and kept trying to grab the bottle.

So - I put the milk down, and played with him for a few minutes......then he started screaming at 12.10 - offered him the bottle and he's just had 6oz in one go.

What's the point of trying to work to a "semi" routine with feeding etc if they won't feed until they're screaming???? Why couldn't he drink his milk 5-10 minute earlier?? Or is there something crucial I'm missing here??

Aw QoQ these babies are a complete law unto themselves eh? My gut reaction is to go with his flow, he is still very young and relatively inexperienced IYSWIM.

So you think he's just not "recognising" that he's hungry until the pangs hit his tummy??? I feel like the evil mummy when I do wait until he's screaming (and he launches striaght into it without any grumbly build up) - but then he won't drink it until he's at that stage

Yes you are probably right, I remember DS1 going from 0 to 60 as it were, straight from happy chap to roaring. Their tummies are so tiny. Plus I would be a teeny tiny bit concerned about kind of teaching him to 'faff' with the bottle. Grit those teeth - and you know you are not evil mummy

PS QoQ gotta push off now, good luck
