I posted in june about my son knowing some colours at 14 months. Well now he has learned shapes too, he is 16 and a half months. If i draw a shape he will name them and all at random. Also he will point out shapes for example when we drive along he will mutter them as we pass one eg he would call out triangle for a roadsign. He can name the following: circle, square, triangle, oval, oblong, star, heart, cross, semi-circle, diamond, and now hexagon!!! His speech is really clear too. The thing is someone said to me that her autistic son could always do this type of thing really early. I am abit worried.

Any comments??
(If he is just bright then that is great!!)

Any other reason you think your child may be autistic?

Well, he is pointing out to things, that to me is a perfectly good sign that he is quite unlikely to be autistic.

I don't really know what the early signs are. He seems like a normal toddler to me full of energy etc

Not pointing is a major sign to consider the posibility of autism, he is pointing, he is talking, not much of a problem.

Enjoy his brightness and... prepare for what is to come!!!

eye contact, responsiveness to emotions? think it is probably just something he has learned by rote and repetition and he might have a fad about something else next month.
