Hello mummies :)

My daughter is 5 months old and she goes through phases of babbling lots some days and hardly any other days.. Is this normal? She makes sounds like ehhh, eww and mainly aggiiii if that makes sense. She did this last month too. Stopped babbling for a week or more and then picked it up again and babbled lots for a week or so and the last few days she's been quiet again :( I want her to say mama or dada soon. How can I help her learn this ? Any advice and help will be much appreciated. Xxx

I would say it's perfectly normal as they concentrate on other skills etc. If she stops for ages then I would look at getting hearing checked and speak to HV but 5 months is very young. Mine didn't really babble until nearly a year old and she's nearly 2 now and STILL won't really call me mama so don't hold your breath lol. Her speech all in all seems to be coming on nicely though. Just talk lots and play lots of imitation games with your LO and lots of face to face contact and give her chance to talk back and have a 'conversation' with her. That's all you can really do at 5MO

Thanks for reassuring me Jannt86 :) I read in other threads about babies saying mama or baba when 5 or 6 months and obviously got really worked up because she's been quiet over the last few days... Hoping she'll pick it up again soon and hopefully your daughter calls you mama soon :)
