just abit of a poll to know if your 4yr does similar thing, if your 4 yr old knows that there is something he/she shouldnt do ie playing with something he shouldnt and they know that everytime they do they get in2 trouble. I know it would be normal 4 them to perhaps play with it and try and hid it or put it back when they hear u coming, but is it normal for them to just carry on as if they had totally forgotten all the times they got in trouble about it and when u get annoyed they seemed totally surprised

My ds (8) still does this and he's nearly 9!

Yes I think the child psychologist types call it 'being a kid and therefore having the attention span of a goldfish'

thanks, was blessed with v good ds1 and ds2 just baffles me sometimes. i know u shouldnt compare and every child different but sometimes hard when they totally diferent. i think i just a bit worried about him starting school next week although he not a naughty child i think he may be the trouble causer in the class coz he is just in his own world

Sounds just like my ds. If I ask him something like "Why do we not run onto the road?" he can give me all the reasons, but when he's running, he's just running. There's no thinking going on when he's running, or whatever else he's doing. You just have to hope some of what you say filters through eventually.
