2yo understanding of Xmas

How much does your 2 year old understand Xmas? My little boy is almost 2, he's our only child so far and people today were asking was he getting excited etc but to him I think he doesn't realise a difference only some new toys. he doesn't understand but that's about average isn't it?

There's also a tiny chance he can't have any Xmas dinner as we got set back and won't be eating until about 7 and he's already very tired so not sure he will last that long

Mine liked looking at the lights but were not interested in presents, Father Xmas until they were 3. They are spring birthdays so more 3.5 at the time.

DS (nearly 23 months) is the same and I’ve had people ask similar questions. He enjoyed getting presents today but otherwise doesn’t really have any understanding of what’s going on, other than that the lights are pretty etc. I wouldn’t worry if your DS didn’t get Christmas Dinner. They’ll understand far more next year.

My 2 year old understands 'Santa'.... because he visited nursery and was terrified of him Wink

Other than that hes the same, he's happy about seeing his cousin and having new toys but he doesn't understand the concept as such

Thanks everyone. He's not at nursery yet and we didn't visit Santa as thought he might not sit still so next year be better

Just regarding books for this age of almost 2, so my boy loves books and we have lots of the hard ones like Julia Donaldson and tiger who came to tea etc. He has 2 favourites but then I try to introduce new ones and he flings then

He does however sit stil and listen to all of the usbourbe that's not my .... books and we have loads and he likes them all but he's not too old for them is he? Not too babyish? Cos obviously quite similar just diff animals etc

At 2 it's unlikely they would understand Christmas, however they will notice all the new lights, decorations; point to them, be interested by them, maybe ask what they are, etc, and would be interested in opening presents once they see that they hide toys ;) - that's probably as much as you would expect at that age.
