Hi people!
New poster here...
Just looking for thoughts on my three year old son (4 in three months time). He's a quick, bright boy - great memory, excellent vocab - but he just seems to be so bi-polar! That's the best word I can think for it...
He's generally quite difficult to manage although when he's on his own (he has older siblings) he can be the sweetest little boy ever. But then other times, he's just a complete demon child.
Let me give you some details... He's extremely left-handed and always has been. (Not sure if that means anything but you know what it's like - you look for patterns and reasons everywhere!).
He isn't out of nappies at night.
He's more difficult than our other kids ever were. He can be fussy about things like what cup/plate he uses and can kick off (clench his fists, stamp his foot - that kind of thing) if he doesn't get the ones he wants although it's not that extreme because we can generally talk him down and persuade him it doesn't matter.
He's often moody and quite often say he hates things (like his mum's car or random things that he's annoyed at for some reason). The other week he even said 'I don't want to wake up tomorrow'.
That evening I asked him if anything was making him sad and he said no. So I asked him what made him happy... Christmas presents were high on the list. And using his pad. I asked if his mummy made him happy and he said yes. And I asked what about hugs. He said those made him happy too.
There just doesn't seem to be any happy medium with him - he's either sweetness and light or absolutely awful. My wife gets worn out with him and probably worries too much that he's got something like ADHD or mild autism or something like that but I tend to think he's just a free spirit who needs to work through some of the issues he's got with the world. ;-)
Would be interested to hear any thoughts/similar experiences you've all got.
Thanks,
Tim
