Tongue tie in a 2 year old

So bare with me as bit of a long one.

The history is this My son is 2 (3 in March) and has delayed speech and trouble eating. When he was a baby I completely failed with breastfeeding and had to formula feed as he lost so much weight (went from the 98th percentile to the 15th 😭). He is currently under a speech and language therapist.

Well I thought the other day that maybe he could have a tongue tie and after an appointment with the GP today he confirmed he does have a tongue tie and is referring us to the paediatric surgeons although he said that they can sometimes be reluctant to do it.

Has anyone had a tongue tie cut in their toddler? And do you think they'd likely do it considering he barely has any words and also he struggles with eating.
Thanks

My DS had his done privately at 3.5. It wasn’t considered severe enough to cause him issues although he also had feeding and speech difficulties.
