My son is growing so quickly!

I dont think my son has a growth problem, and he is not huge. But in terms of clothes I am at my wits end.

He is just gone 8 months, but is wearing 12-18. He's not a chuky boy, as in no puppy fat, no bracelets on wrists and ankles etc. But he is long and solid.

I am exhausting the second hand shops around me. I and tonight I will be spending 2 hours or more listing clothes and equipment on e-bay to fund buying more clothes for him.

I have just been given a bag of sleep suits for him that are all 9-12 and he's already finding these snug too - when they normally come up roomy.

The amount of clothes he has which have been worn just once or twice is embarassing. In fact unless in a sale now I dont even by him new stuff. Although his God Mother does s he does have some new stuff.

My daughter never grew this fast, I could buy her clothes months in advance in sales as she was always true in size to her age.

Everyone I talk to about this says he's just normal for a baby boy. And wont it be nice if it continues and I have a solid little boy/teenager as opposed to a willowy one.

I'm going to the baby clinic this week to get him weighed, and speak to the HV about his size.

Am I just being over paranoid?

My ds was like this - still wears clothes about 2 years above his age. He is one of the tallest in his class but doesn't stand out as being unusually tall. I think that chn are generally getting taller.

Sometimes little boys just grow a lot in their first 2 years. He might hardly grow at all between 2 and 3. Don't let this worry you please, it's all normal. Don't take what your HV says to heart too much - often they judge on weight alone instead of weight v height.

I have a few bits if you want something cheap. None of mine have been in their age clothes since about 0-3 months! Sounds like he will be a good strong boy and I wouldn't worry.

My DS was like that, he left the height charts well behind for some time, not that I often saw the HV. He's nearly 4 now and has definitely slowed down a bit, though I dread to think how much taller than the rest of the children he will be when he finally gets to school in 2008.

My DD is the opposite and I have in the past worried about her not growing enough.

my sisters lo 12mo thur is as tall as my dd 15mo but my neice is chunkier with it dont worry his growth spurt will settle, can you ask the hv if she knows of anyone getting rid of larger clothes she may know, have you a local church? i ask as pil have had me several black bags of clothes or donations to the church! would offer some but they all very girly.
have had cheap looking jeans £1.50 in asda perfect for in house! shop around!

Thanks everyone, especially for the offers of clothes. I have been stewing on this for a while now, and had a chat to a friend who has a DS a year older. She is going to sort me a out a bag or two of clothes.

Our fab weather in the UK doesnt help either I never know what he's going to need from one day to the next. Oh and our washing machine has been out of action since Friday so that also helps...not

Still a bag of clothes on the way, we're off to Butlins on holiday so thats all wet weather clothes and the repair man is due tomorrow afternoon.

Things are looking up.

Update!

Well, today my little (hah) man got weighed and he was a whopping 23lb 15oz, and has jumped up two lines on the centiles(sp) to the 98th. But the HV has told me not to reduce food or milk because he is all in proportion - a relief to hear and so unlike a HV not to tell me to do something other than what I am.

In contrast I was with a friend who was having her 16 month old twins weighed (DS is 8 months) and the lighter of her twins is also 2oz lighter than DS . Should add, the twins dont look small for thier age and they are perfectly and beautifully built little chaps, it's just that DS is a bit of a whopper.

DH thinks he will be playing football for England - but iof he carries on like this it will be rugby!

Oh and repair man turned up and there was nothing wrong with the machine, yet I ran a spin cycle 3 times and nothing!!!

yes, ds 1 and 2 , aged 5.5 years and 6.5 months were/are like this, the baby is 23 pounds and in 12-18 month, DH and I are 6 2 and 5 10, ds1 is now solid AND long and willowing and you can see his ribs, his thigh bone is so skinny and long, he is the tallest in his class too, ds 2 is all in proportion too, my back is done in is yours, big squishy bundles of love! xx

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a bit more at ease with this now. DH and I are very tall, and I come from extremely solid breeding stock. A had a GrtGM who was 6'4" and could carry a sack of flour under each arm (back in those days) so I guess I am breeding future NBA stars

at least we'll have a comfortable retirement - even if now is a bit of a struggle
