Separation anxiety or just tantrums?

Hi! Wasn't sure where to post. My DS is 2 and a half (just over). We have had a bit of a rough couple of months (me and his dad have separated) but these last 2 weeks have been absolute hell! DS will be fine all day but as soon as bed time hits he's like a different child. Screams at me (shouts no constantly), refuses to go to bed, once in bed he will refuse to sleep, lie down, will constantly get up. Come downstairs for a "cuddle" but he doesn't actually want me to touch him at all. Wants the bedroom door open, then shut, then open. When I finally tell him he has to sleep, he will do it all again. Shouting, crying, wanting me to hug him but not hug him, wanting a drink but not wanting a drink. It's an endless cycle where he can't decide what he wants. The past 4 nights he has eventually passed out in either my bed or the couch. Next to me. I then carry him back to his bed. But he's waking up so early! Like 5am. Wakes up shrieking. He can become inconsolable and can't seem to breathe properly, will dribble all the time. Stamps his feet. Shouts at me. It's exhausting. For DS and for me. He looks tired constantly, and so do I. I don't know what to do! Any advice would be appreciated. TIA
