Biting (shock)

Does anyone have any advice for me on how to deal with my son? He is 19 months old now and he is a happy and content little boy who sleeps 12 hours a night, but he has taken to biting me, to the extent that I have little teethmarks and bruises on my arms from it. Hes not doing it in an agressive way, he seems to get really overexcited when hes playing and will come and bite me, and sometimes when hes just having an cuddle with me or his dadhe will out of the blue just bitereally hard. I dont think hes old enough to really understand that he shouldnt be doing it or to be put on any naughty step, but hes my first child and I really dont know how to deal with it?
I`d really appreciate some advice if anyone has any?
