Toddler with social anxiety..
3

Archiesmummy5 · 27/10/2019 08:31

Hello.. my toddler is two in January. We went to a Halloween party recently and he just cried as they were nearly all strangers and it was in a small house.. I think he got so overwhelmed.. I admit I do get flustered with it, not to him but in my head and wondering whether he’s picking vibes up from me! He socialises at nursery fine, and loves play centres and he’s meeting milestones fine.. I’m just seeking advice on how to combat it for his sake and strategies on how to cope and handle it from me and his daddy. Thanks for reading this :-)

don't call it social anxiety. He's practically a baby. Most 2 year olds would find that overwhelming.

Just try to take him to gatherings that are smaller.

He sounds fine to me. Maybe the noise and weird outfits freaked him out.

Agree with @BillHadersNewWife about not labelling it social anxiety. I'd say it's perfectly normal for his age. My DS was always the same and would cling onto me for dear life at parties etc - even when there was a couple of kids he knew. He's now 3 and half and it's only recently he's getting more comfortable in those situations. You can encourage him to join in but don't let him see it bothers you if he doesn't want to. He will get there in his own time xxx
