the day i went back to work so 7 months.

geekgrrl · 25/09/2004 16:59

7 months - sort of clapping with one fist and one palm when prompted verbally - properly clapping with palms at 9 months

Hayls · 25/09/2004 17:52

About 6 months, only just started doing it when asked to clap hands this week (now 8 months)

I remember dd was 5.5mths. I used to sing clap hands daddy come home to her all the time and one day whilst we were waiting in the car for dh to come out of mothercare (with atravel cot) she started clapping along.
I only rember so much detail as it was my birthday and me and dh were going away for the weekend that day.(hence the travel cot).

According to DD's baby book, she first clapped hands at 25 weeks. But that was probably only when coppying someone, not to a verbal request to do so.

I can't believe I don't remember!!!

My ds2 was about 6 months old. He started doing it the day after we started singing some new songs that had clapping actions in them (wind the bobbin up, etc). He didn't join in at the time but he must have taken it in as the next day he was starting to do it.

marysavannah · 10/12/2004 13:36

my dd is 1yr and still wont clap her hands- when i sit her on my lap n clap hands in front of her shell grab both my thumbs and pull my hands apart then make them clap.

any ideas how to move her to clapping her own hands? has anyones else kid done this.

DP and I were talking about this (dd not clapping hands, she's 7 mo) Do you make an effort to teach your kids to do stuff like clap and wave? I haven't as I thought she'd just pick it up but having seen other babies of her age do it, I wonder if I should be trying to teach her.

Chuffingoodtime · 10/12/2004 13:58

about 7months here. Haven't gone out of the way to try to teach these things, no waving yet, they just get things as they go along.
I know there will be some things she'll do quickly and others more slowly just as us adults are better at somethings than others.

DD clapped my hands for a couple of days before she figured out how to clap her own (while my father was babysitting -- to his amusement she then clapped her hands in her sleep!)
That was a few weeks ago, just before she was 9 months. She doesn't clap when told to, but usually does if other people are clapping.
