A question for all those who have had babies who love to sleep

My dd goes to nursery twice a week and when she is there she sleeps from 12-1 and that is her only nap.

However on the other 4 days at home, she still sleeps from 9.30-11ish and 1.30-2.45. She doesn't always seem that sleepy when I put her down but she always has a nap anyway. She then sleeps 7-7 at night.

When will she give up one of her naps? Not that I want her to mind, but what are the signs? Just that she won't go to sleep when I put her down? Many of my friends babies went down to 1 nap at around a year.

My dd is 13.5 months btw.

Both of mine gave up their 3rd nap around aged one year.
DS gave up his second nap around age 19 months and DD was a little earlier but we forced to her to stay awake coz we were on holidays and wanted to be out and about all morning.
They both gradually pushed back the morning nap until it became late enough to be after lunch nap.

she will decide herself when she doesnt need one, or you will when you find she wont go down at seven and wakes up at five thats a sure sign she dosent need it! Although if she only has a small nap at nursery she can obviously go without anyway!! My two were terrible sleepers so i never let them nap if i could help it even if they started to nod off id do something like give them a bath to wake them up, i wouldnt worry though if shes sleeping through at night.

DD age 18 months is a sleep addict, she doesn't sleep at nursery but will sleep from 1.15 to about 4 when she comes home, on the days that she doesn't go she will generally sleep from about 11 to 1.30 and will still soemtimes have another hour at 4 before bed and sleeping 7 until 7, she has only just in the last month not wanted an afternoon nap everyday. HTH

When dd was that age she had two shortish naps of about ½ hour at nursery and one long one of a couple of hours when at home. tbh I can't remember when she went to one nap at nursery, probably about 18 months ish.

Now she is 3 and doesn't nap at all at nursery but will still have a 2 hour nap at home some days without affecting her night time sleep

She has always slept more at home, less distraction I suppose.

DS is 14.5 months and I've just been forced (by him!) to drop a nap. He was a complete blighter going down for his naps, particularly the second one, would take until 8pm to get to sleep (7pm bedtime) and sometimes wake early. TBH today is only day 2 but he was a doddle to get down for a nap today and he was out like a light at 7pm last night and slept till 7.30 this morning . Still wish he had two naps for my sanity though, but hey ho!

Thanks for all your replies - they vary so much with naps once they hit one don't they? Seems like it's not so unusual to still be having two naps at 14 months then.

YOU ARE SO LUCKY!

My 16mth old has only just started having a long (1 and half hr) nap during the day. She always used to have three half hour naps when 6-12mths! Too damn active.

So enjoy all your time to yourself!

my dd loves her sleep too...she is 15 months and still on two naps a day...she can easily sleep 3-4 hours in total during the day (espec on a friday, after a week of slightly shorter naps at the CM's house...it's less quiet there than our house), and then a good night's sleep too.
