Braces for 10yo

DD (10) is getting braces to correct an overbite caused by sucking her thumb. We ummed and ahhed for a bit because her teeth are actually straight, but the dentist said she's got too much of a gap in her bite. What should I know about how to make/keep her comfortable with them? Is it likely to be painful? Asked the orthodontist but he was immensely vague and wanted to focus on cleaning routines.

Are they fixed or removable?

They're fixed - train-track style with the elastics. We looked at the Invisalign type but it was over £3000! So NHS ones it is.

Soft foods for the first few days as her mouth may be sore. Pain relief, dental wax in case bits of wire that rub. Interdental brushes to clean under wires.

My dd is coming to the end of brace wearing after about 18/20 months
