Son says all his toys are mummies or girls

Does anyone know why my 3 year old son might be so obsessed with everything being female? He is stereotypically a boy; loves dinosaurs (obsessed actually) and cars and building etc. But all his dinosaurs are mummies, all his cars are female and he corrects us if we say 'he' to any of his toys! It's not a problem of course I'm just curious about the psychology behind it. It's like the makes and the daddies are a lower lass in his head!

Are you his main carer?

Manders19 · 28/09/2019 04:57

Yes, well me and his father. Everything is pretty 50-50 in our house. I have a 10 month old too, so there are times when I'm with the baby and the 3 year old is more with his dad, less so now he is getting older and I'm nearly finished with nursing.

I don't think it matters? Kids project what they're familiar with. My DS will always say something is looking for his mummy or daddy (but usually mummy). So we see a snail, oh he's looking for his mummy. Or a bigger snail and a smaller snail, it's mummy and her baby.

Is the baby a girl?

Manders19 · 28/09/2019 20:04

No he has a little brother. He jokes about how I am the only girl in the house. Its not a problem of course, i just find it fascinating. He is very much against us calling any of his toys 'him' or 'he'.
