Sensory seeking - how much is normal?

DS will be 4 end of the year.

I've been reading more and more about ASD and sensory seeking behaviours, and have noticed recently that he does the following:

  • looks at things out of the corner of his eye, usually with the other eye closed
  • hangs off chairs
  • finger posturing

How much sensory seeking behaviour is to be expected in a child of this age? Eg I will only notice him looking at something out of the corner of one eye maybe once, twice, three times a day? And probably not every single day. Same with the hanging off chairs, he'll do it at meal times sometimes, but not every meal time, and it's for seconds rather than minutes each time.

Finger posturing he does often when we are walking somewhere, so that's the one he does the most.

Do other kids that age hang off furniture sometimes? Or is it always a sensory seeking behaviour?

Oh also having his fingers in his mouth, watching tv or in the car. Feel like I notice something new all the time!
