ds is 16 months and has very recently started to throw things at people and hit people, i have no idea where he has picked it up as he is not in nursery yet and is with me every day. Has anyone else had this and what is the best way to deal with this as if i tell him off he just smirks and finds it all very amusing before trying again, i have a playpen which is rarely used as he doesnt like being in there so i have started putting him in there and leaving the room for 2 minuites as his punnishment but this doesn't seem to be having to much effect either??? Is this normal toddler behaviour and will he grow out of it with the right discipline??

dd (also 16 mths) is also in a BIG stage of this atm. She also bites... so I see you & raise you one!
DS never did but I think its a totally normal stage. When dd hits/ bites, I put straight down, say no firmly & walk away. Throwing, I take toy she throws away and say no throwing in the house. Perserverance is the key I think

ime is normal behaviour, ds is 2.2 and still going through this phase, we use the naughty step every time, only for a couple of minutes, but it does calm him down. tends to decrease once they can communicate a bit more as it comes with a bit of frustration at not being able to express anger any other way.

pinching - that my ds's favourite (he's nearly 16months). Dont think it has anything to do with going to nursery (or not). He often just smirks at me when i tell him off, i'v etaken to holding him still on my lap when he pinches, bites or hits (after giving him a warning) for a minute. He hates it and doesnt always go straight back to doing it.

ohh, pinching - yes dd does that too

DS still tries this at 3 1/2, and my dd at 17 months is starting it too.

We tried telling off and time outs etc but have recently laid down a new rule - if you throw it you lose it! As soon as they throw a toy I just take it away for a day..... it seems to be working so far and they are getitng the message! Fingers crossed it continues to work! I think it is pretty normal behavior!
