Late walker

My DS is nearly 16 months old and not walking yet. He's been pulling up and cruising since 9 months and standing unaided since 15 months, but he hardly ever troubles himself with the unaided standing, only if he wants to impress someone it seems..

Should I be getting worried? Other babies his age all seem to be walking Sad

I've known babies who didn't walk until eighteen months but when they eventually did, there was no stopping them! They were perfectly normal and grew up fine.

You could hold his hand and walk with him, see how it goes.

Sometimes he does walk with his hands held, but I'd say 80% of the time he isn't having it!! He's been pulling up and cruising for seven months now, it just seems to be going on and on.

My husband didn't walk til 18 months.
He's just got back from running club this eve... there's no stopping him now!!

My little boy is 17 months and only started walking 2 weeks ago! I was worried like you are. He'd been cruising for months too and would walk if we held his hands. In the end it was encouraging him to walk to his big brother that got him to do it. Whenever we tried "walk to daddy" he'd drop to his knees shouting "no no no". I think he just didn't like being coerced into it.

He loved walking now and life's so much easier being able to put him down whilst I find my keys and things like that.

So don't worry, even though you will, until he starts walking! I know because I was exactly the same.

@sadlycindy

That's reassuring to hear! Was your eldest a later walker too? I've got a DD who walked at 15 months, so not early but not really late either..

My dd didn't walk till 20 months, rarely cruised round the furniture before that, was happy crawling. It was quite remarkable, she just suddenly stood up and took 3 steps towards the tv. She was walking like she'd been doing for months within days. Try not to worry, they all get there in thier own time

sadlycindy · 12/09/2019 07:52

@lakequeen well it's my stepson so I'm not really sure. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about but if you are, ring the HV a ring and they'll set your mind at rest.

Don't worry, my DS didn't walk until he was 18 months but he could ride a bike without stabilisers at 3! They all do it in their own time and the fact he is pulling up and bearing weight are all good signs. He'll be fine.

My DS didn’t start walking properly until he was 22 months. He’s 2.7 now and has caught up completely. If he’s not walking at 18 months, see your GP or HV but try not to worry as 16 months is actually classed as being late.
