I have a 5 week old DD. When should I start tummy time and any tips to make it enjoyable?

My little boy hated it. I gave up in the end. I tried it again when he was maybe 6 months old, he liked it then because he's learned to roll over. So much emphasis is placed on tummy time and IMO it's a pointless thing that just worries parents and causes them to spend money on useless tt accessories.

I didn't ever deliberately do it as DS wasn't a fan at all but he was in a carrier for walking the dogs every day, which is just as good at strengthening them.

So try it whenever but don't expect them to enjoy it, or to even tolerate it for very long.

I too gave up and used carrier for him in the hope this would help. Wasn't until about 5 months that he coyld roll over that he started going on his tummy on his own. I just couldnt be bothered to force the issue.

Start now and try to find ways of making it fun - you can Google what baby physios do - I found some pretty helpful suggestions, e.g. put them in front of a mirror. (Tummy time on the floor with nothing to do is in my experience a real no-goer! :)) Plus look for some indications of how long you should be doing it - I totally missed the part about gradually increasing the the time they spend on their tummies, until my physio told me that.

My DD loved those water mat things when doing tummy time or a mirror. Some babies hate it though so don’t be too worried. I always think it’s not THAT important as you never see adults walking around with wobbly necks do you??
