Boys fighting all the time! I can't cope!

I don't know what to do anymore. I have 3 boys (5,8 and 10) and they're constantly fighting. There was a fair bit of fighting and bickering over the holidays but it's got worse since they went back to school. Hubby has gone away for a week and I'm an emotional wreck and so stressed, I can't stop crying right now.

I also get so angry when one hits or hurts the other. I do punish them -i.e. taking ipad priviledges away etc. They don't seem to care much that their mum is so upset over all of it (I guess that's pretty normal for kids) although with my reaction today - really upset and crying , the 5 year old said sorry and the 10 year old has been quiet since. There's not even 3 of them here right now as the 8 year old is at a party! I get no respite from the fighting even when one isn't here!

I know siblings don't always get on but how do I get them to get on better?? I can't face another 10 plus years of this!! They do sometimes play well together but those times seem few and far between right now!!

and please no judgy comments. My boys are doing so well at school and hardly ever get into trouble so there isn't an issue with their overall behaviour just issues with siblings at home- maybe it's rivalry?? I'd better buy the book- something about dealing with sibling rivalry...

Sorry to hear this OP. I don’t have experience of this (yet!) but I’m sure I will as mine grow up a bit more. The only thing I can think of is maybe separating them as much as possible until they learn to play relatively nicely together. For example sending each to a different room and giving each one a separate task as soon as the fighting starts. I don’t know if that would help them associate fighting with a negative consequence, ie. playtime’s over!?

How are they fighting and in what kind of situations? Are they bored? Do they get enough exercise? Are they stressed?

Omg I'm glad I'm not alone my 7 year old has been a nightmare for fighting his siblings. Same as you he does well in school and stuff like that. It's only when he's with his siblings or cousin who is of similar age. It's like you tell him then within a minute our conversation about it has been completely forgot and it's back to bickering or fighting.I too have cried about this. Might have to join you with that book
