What age can they eat alone?

My daughter is 3 (just turned) and takes ages eating breakfast. I sit with her for 30 mins but like to go & get ready too. Do you think it’s safe?

She sits with her older brother (8) and eats weetabix (which I’m not worried about) and strawberries cut up. Do you think it’s still too young and too risky?

What should be risky about that?

I left my dd to eat on her own while I went for a wee and got dressed at like, 1. I can now happily leave her at almost three with anything on the plate (mostly because she doesn't really eat and takes forever to chew one bite) but also because they aren't stupid at three and aren't going to go hmmm let's see if I can choke myself on weetabix while mum is out of the room for five minutes...

I've been moving in and out of the room where DS has eating for ages- only time I ever get anything done, or get to go to the loo unaccompanied. He's 2.2

Thanks, the thing that bothered me was the fact that she would be on the other side of the house and I’d be upstairs getting ready and wouldn’t be able to hear her or help if she did choke!

That’s reassured me Smile

I try to be careful about this, I wouldn't leave a 3 year old alone for longer than to nip out to another room when eating. Whilst it's less likely, they could still choke. Taking over 30 minutes to eat is crazy. Maybe she's not hungry or is she distracted by eating in front of the Tv ? My DS same age, takes about 6 /7 minutes max to eat a bowl of weetabix and that is with the its too hot bit as I microwave it ! After that I'd take it away as he's not hungry. Does she fill up on milk first thing ?
